I do not believe that I am the right person for this job. However, by starting this blog I have put myself in a position where I find it necessary to eulogize Angela Lansbury. May I be gifted with words that are worthy of the woman who graced our screens for generations.

Since Angela's passing, I have read many a personal tribute praising her for her exemplary kindness and her unmatched graciousness. This, of course, warmed my heart to read. But as someone who had no personal dealings or experiences with Ms. Lansbury, I can not, and will not, make any claims to her character or temperament. Instead, I will give her the only fitting tribute I can, which is a sincere thank you for the joy she has brought into my life.
Whenever I discover a new actor who I enjoy, I google them and read their entire list of credits. I inevitably always swear that I will make a point to watch everything they have ever been in. I have done this same routine with Tom Hanks, James McAvoy, Melissa McCarthy, and most recently with Angela Lansbury. However, no matter how many times I set my mind to this task, I never follow through. Sure, I have seen many of Tom Hanks' films, but I have never once sat down to create a schedule of when I will actively work through the entire filmography. And the same is true of Angela's work. Yes, I had every intention of watching her debut in Gaslight, but so far, I have yet to find my way to that film. Truly, my biggest exposure to Angela Lansbury has been through Murder She Wrote, and I suppose through Beauty and the Beast.
Despite my lack of knowledge of her full career, I know one thing for certain: She was a talented and genuine performer. So much of the appeal of MSW, and I am sure the other projects that she was a part of, was her charm and openness to the camera. Though I have only been watching MSW for about a year, I feel as though Jessica Fletcher has been my lifelong friend.
And so I must send my thanks into the atmosphere for Angela Lansbury, hoping that she somehow feels the essence of my words. May she know that her work from many, many years ago is still impacting the world for the better. On my worst days, I can turn to the friendly and welcoming face of Jessica Fletcher, and I will feel comforted. For those of us who did not know the real-to-life Angela Lansbury, her legacy is the way she made us feel when we watched her at home. To me, that is a legacy of belonging and being welcome.
Angela, thank you for your time. Thank you for you work. Thank you for dedication, and thank you for being there at the touch of a remote control button. Thank you for the things you did to make my world a better place. And may you reap the rewards of your labor in whatever way you believed you would when you passed.
To Angela, 1925 to 2022.
